Northern Ireland (北アイルランド, Kitaairurando) is a supporting character in the series Hetalia. He is the personification of Northern Ireland.
Appearance[]
Northern Ireland has short, red hair with bangs that are combed over to one side. Like his brothers England, Wales, and Scotland, he has thick eyebrows and green eyes. Of the UK brothers, he is shorter than Scotland but taller than Wales and about the same height as England.
Personality[]
Northern Ireland is friendly, nosy, and sometimes tells sarcastic jokes. He loves Tayto crisps, ice cream, and talking about the weather. He doesn't know when to hang up on the phone. He's often portrayed to be nervous/anxious while rambling about things he plans to do but then retracting some of his statements.
Role in the Series[]
Along with his brothers, Northern Ireland interrupts a world meeting when England makes an out-of-date comment about older siblings and becomes determined to prove Britain otherwise about his theory of older brothers' behavior compared to younger siblings.
Relationships[]
- England: Northern Ireland is England's older brother, as agreed upon in the United Kingdom brothers' house rules.
- Ireland: In the past, Ireland and Northern Ireland were partners and best friends, in an alliance against England, until Northern Ireland was drawn to the United Kingdom's textiles industry some time during the industrial revolution and became closer to England. At present, Ireland wants to talk to him but has been procrastinating about it.
Trivia[]
- Northern Ireland loves Tayto, which is a real Irish brand of potato crisps. The Northern Irish Tayto company is based at Tandragee Castle, also known as Tayto Castle.
- In Chapter 406, when Wales and Scotland are arguing over King Arthur's nationality, Northern Ireland tries to calm the situation between them down, just to be described as 'Rubbish at peace-making' by England.

- ↑ His exact physical age is unknown, and it is uncertain whether he would look older than England or not. In a bonus comic posted on Himaruya's Twitter (Japanese; English), it is shown that he, Wales, and Scotland decided that England would refer to them all as "big brother" in exchange for him representing the whole UK at meetings, regardless of whatever their actual physical ages are.
