Some fans believe that Romano's hatred towards Germany may be because that Italy is around and likes Germany more than him, some believe that it is due to what happened in 1943 with Italy and Romano going into a civil war, for Romano switched sides and Italy stayed with Germany, and others believe that it is because Holy Roman Empire, someone why upset Italy looked like Germany. This is seen when he was so sad when Italy didn't have anything nice to say about him, may be the reason he is rude to his brother. Italy does cares for Romano, shown when he was happy to sleep in the same bed with him. Some fans believe that Italy has a brother complex with Romano or the other way around.
