|
This page contains explanations and further context about certain outfits that Lithuania has worn, including military uniforms, cultural clothing, Halloween costumes, and so on. Some information has not been directly stated by Hidekaz Himaruya, but has instead been deduced by fans; any speculation will be specified. Changes made in adaptations, such as the anime, is noted when applicable.
Chibi Lithuania from Axis Powers Volume 4
Military Outfits[]
Medieval Battle Attire[]
During his time as a Grand Duchy (namely in adapted in Eastern Europe While Totally Being Pushed Around by Poland![1] Episode 92), Lithuania can be seen wearing a green tunic with a gloden shoulder sash, as well as caryrring a red and gold shield. The design on the shield is a reference to Lithuania's coat of arms.
Card No. 51 (The World-6 - Poland & Lithuania) from the 2008 TCG depicts Lithuania and Poland in battle attire from the 15th century.[2][Note 1] However, just like the previously mentioned outfit, it seems like the exact inspiration behind Lithuania's battle attire is unknown; it is possibly historically inaccurate.
Signature WWII Uniform[]
Lithuania often appears wearing this uniform in strips set around the time of WWII. He wears a forest green jacket and matching pants, brown shoes, a white shirt and a green (sometimes black) tie.
In earlier media, his jacket had an emblem on the left shoulder, though that feature was quickly abandonned; in some instances he also seems to be wearing gaiters and/or tall brown boots.
Formal Wear[]
Modern Uniform[]
Cover of World☆Stars Volume 8[6]
In recent years, Himaruya has been stepping away from drawing the characters in the WWII uniforms they were previously known for, partially due to the fact that most strips from Hetalia: World☆Stars (manga) take place in modern times.
On the cover of World☆Stars Volume 8 as well as World☆Stars Chapter 481,[7] Lithuania can be seen wearing a black, double-breasted jacket with golden trims, matching black pants, and white gloves.
It seems like the Baltics and Poland are wearing something akin to diplomatic uniforms, judging by the similar golden ornate embroideries and trimmings, the insignas on their sleeves and/or collar lapels, and an aiguillette in Lithuania's case. However, it is worth noting that modern-day Poland does not use diplomatic uniforms anymore.
World Meeting[]
When dressed for the meeting in the strip Meeting Of The World,[8] Lithuania wore a green sweater over a white dress shirt and green tie, and dark pants, which is also what he wears in Episode 01. However in the prototype webcomic version[9] of the story, he wore a light-colored suit and had his hair tied back into a ponytail.
In The Weirdos・Part 1, he can be seen in the crowd wearing a forest green suit over a white dress shirt, and a brown tie. He does not appear in the comic strips adapted in that episode.
Traditional Clothing[]
There have been a few instances of Lithuania being shown wearing traditional clothes, especially at the time of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (16th-18th century). Unfortunately though, resources about Lithuanian folk costumes are lacking and much of the inspiration behind the outfits remain unclear.
However, it is worth mentioning that Lithuanian folk dress includes a lot browns and blues, as well as intricate floral embroideries at the chest and wrists of blouses which are similar to their Polish counterparts. The waist sashes (juostos in Lithuanian) were still worn by many men up to the 20th century, even as the rest of traditional wear was progressively abandonned.
Event Outfits[]
Halloween Costumes[]
2006 (Dog Suit)[]
In the Halloween 2006 Comic[14] (adapted in Extra Episode 2), Lithuania is dressd up in a dog suit, colored beige and tan in the anime.
2011 (Fairytales and Folklore)[]
In the Halloween 2011 Event[15] (adapted in Surprise Halloween!), the characters were split into different groups, each themed around fairytales or local folklore. Lithuania was grouped with Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, and their theme was Alice in Wonderland. Lithuania's costume is inspired by the card soldiers, more specifically, the Ace of clubs.
2024 (Not-so-scary Monsters)[]
For Halloween 2024, Himaruya drew a series of characters dressed up as monsters from their local folklore, but with a non-threatening twist, hence the name "not-so-scary monsters" (あんまり怖くないモンスター, anmari kowakunai monsutā). Lithuania's costume is based on the Eurasian ermine (šermuonėlis in Lithuanian).
Alternate Universes[]
Gakuen Hetalia[]
Lithuania appears in both concept art and the screenplay[19] of Gakuen Hetalia (game). His uniform, as shown in the concept art, is the standard boys' winter uniform with a tan-colored sweater.
He also appears wearing the same clothes in a sketch along with Poland, which was a reply to a blog commenter asking why Lithuania is so busy that he fails to attend the Choir Club most of the time.
In a gag doodle drawn at the end of the Checkmating Poland[20] strip, he makes another appearance in uniform along with Poland, who tries to get Lithuania to comment his own outfit (as he is wearing the girls' uniform). This scene also appears in Episode 97 which adapts said strip.
Nyotalia[]
See Lithuania's section on the Nyotalia page.
World☆Stars: Gangsta[]
Lithuania appears for the first time in World☆Stars: Gangsta in World☆Stars Chapter 547, along with the other Baltics. He is shown wearing a white shirt with a black tie, along with a light sweater vest, and a long black coat with a furred collar. His hair is also tied back in a half ponytail.
Miscellaneous[]
These are leftover outfits that did not fit into any other category.
