See also: Creatures of Hetalia, List of Axis Powers Hetalia characters

This is a list of minor characters in Hetalia: Axis Powers. These characters do not have enough information about them to warrant individual wiki pages. Most of them have never appeared within the manga or anime, but they have been drawn in official artwork or sketches, or are referenced in official materials such as the Gakuen Hetalia game or Himaruya's blog.

Some of these characters are also not specifically any sort of country or region, but are simply other minor characters in the series.

Europe

Most of the characters in this section have only been mentioned by Himaruya as characters he would like to design, but hasn't yet. Or, they have had very brief appearances but no further development.

Albania

Albania has no design and has only been mentioned in Greece's bio and relationships chart. Albania apparently finds Greece stylish and is always crowding his home, but Greece dislikes them and wishes they would leave. In a blog post made during the Halloween 2013 event, Himaruya indicated that Eastern European countries like Albania might make brief appearances during the event, but they ultimately did not.

Andorra

Andorra has no design, but was briefly mentioned in a blog post from 2008, where Himaruya said that it "sounds like a very interesting country for making a character out of", citing that it was "forgotten by France and declared war on Germany despite never taking part on any fights." He concluded that Andorra would be an interesting country to personify.

Croatia

Croatia1

Croatia as he appears in the "Turkey-san and the EU" comic

Croatia was introduced in the comic "Turkey-san and the EU" as an unnamed and bedraggled man with ruffled hair and stubble. In the comic, he asked to join the European Union and was immediately let in, then remarked on how easy it was to Turkey. He was not given a proper introduction, leading to fan speculation on his identity, but it was later confirmed that the character was indeed Croatia. A dew days before the comic was posted, Croatia had signed the treaty to become the 28th member of the European Union. Additionally, in a follow up blog post, Himaruya stated the nation was "the country that makes beautifully ornamented, heart-shaped biscuits and uses them as gifts and even sells them as souvenirs!" which is a practice done in Croatia. Though, Himaruya has not specifically said he was in fact Croatia.

During the Halloween 2013 event, Croatia is indicated to be standing off panel near Bulgaria and Romania after Hungary locked them out of the main room, but he never appears. A later blog post explained that "for a while he had dark circles under his eyes and was an outlaw but after he started to emphasize on tourism he began to care more about his appearance and shifted into Eastern Europe's freshest and most handsome guy from his natural good looks." In a blog post made during the event, Himaruya indicated that Eastern European countries like Croatia might make brief appearances, but Croatia was only ever mentioned.

Malta

Malta has no design, but in a blog post from 2011, when asked by a fan about a Malta character, Himaruya listed them as one of the most frequently requested. When asked again a month later, he referred to Malta as "quite refreshing."

Serbia

Maybeserbia

The character on the ground is believed to be Serbia.

Serbia was mentioned in some additional drawings following the story "The Students Who Can't Study! Modern Day Eastern Europe" that Himaruya posted on his blog in November of 2014. In that comic strip, Bulgaria declares that he is finally independent and even managed to fend off Serbia when they attacked him. Bulgaria was shown standing triumphantly over another character. It is likely that this other character, who is shown to have dark hair, is Serbia, though this has not been confirmed. One of the unnamed characters in the comic also asks Romania if he should "rough up" Bulgaria, and he looks very similar to the supposed Serbia that Bulgaria was standing over.

Vatican City

Vatican has not made any appearances or been mentioned in the series yet, but has been mentioned by Himaruya to exist in the Hetalia universe. He is described as an older man who lives near Italy but is considered to be bossy and annoying, which puts him at odds with Italy. He was also mentioned a character profile for Switzerland as having hired him as a mercenary in the past.

Himaruya apparently has been working on a design for Vatican City for a long time, because he mentioned in a blog post from 2009 that he has notebooks filled with Vatican's face. Vatican City was mentioned again in a 2011 blog post, where Himaruya listed him as someone who had been requested since the very early days of Hetalia.

Genoa

Genoa first appeared in Chapter 311 of World Stars. He is a young man with dark hair and wears a royal crown. Just like Italy, Romano, and Seborga, he has a hair curl pointing upwards on the top of his head and is a relative of Rome. Genoa is said to not be good with governing territories that are far away from him. His style of governing was considered to be "too arrogant" so Corsicans revolted frequently. In return, Genoa put their sovereignty up for sale and France purchased the entire island.

Unidentified Nations

Throughout the "The Students Who Can't Study! Modern Day Eastern Europe" comic, there are a few unnamed characters who could possibly be intended to be some other Balkan nations. Mostly they are seen as observers to the interactions between or interacting with Romania and Bulgaria. There are no specific clues to who any of them are, though some fans speculate the dark haired character to be Serbia, especially because of his line wondering if he should "rough up" Bulgaria.

Autonomous Regions

The characters in this section are personifications of regions that have some self-governance but not considered sovereign countries.

Åland Islands

When asked if Åland would ever appear, Himaruya responded that it was difficult to say if they would appear, but that they were quite unique. They later were mentioned by Finland and Denmark in the lyrics of the song "Always With You... Nordic Five!" along with the Faroe Islands and Greenland as being a member of the Nordics.

Greenland

Greenland

The Greenland design that appeared on merchandise.

Greenland was seemingly introduced in a merchandise announcement, but they have not appeared in any official manga or blog posts. They have no confirmed gender and are pictured with shaggy hair and wearing knee high boots and a parka with a hood. Beside them is an animal that is most likely an arctic fox. They were previously mentioned by Denmark in the lyrics of the song "Always With You... Nordic Five!" as being a member of the Nordics, along with the Faroe Islands and the Åland Islands.

Faroe Islands

Faroe has no design and has only been mentioned in the lyrics of the song "Always With You... Nordic Five!" by Denmark as being a member of the Nordics, along with the Åland Islands and Greenland.

Africa

The characters in this section are African nations that have been discussed by Himaruya, and many were introduced and have only been seen or mentioned in Gakuen Hetalia. Most of these nations have no confirmed gender and/or design.

Botswana

Botswana has no confirmed gender and has only been shown as a "chibi" head illustration in the Gakuen Hetalia game. They are depicted with brown skin and dark blonde hair in a ponytail and were introduced as a former territory of Britain. In the game, they state that they believe they can cook seswaa (the national dish of Botswana) the best and that they enjoy weaving baskets and beading things.

Cabinda

Cabinda appeared in the Gakuen Hetalia game but they have no design. In the game, they introduced themselves as a former territory of Portugal. The real life Cabinda is an exclave and province of Angola.

(Democratic Republic of the) Congo

Congo appeared in the Gakuen Hetalia game but they have no design. In the game, they introduced themselves as a former territory of Belgium.

Ethiopia

Ethiopia was first mentioned in a 2006 footnote to Kitty Festival as someone Himaruya wanted to design someday. In a character profile for Italy he was mentioned as having fought with him. In October and November of 2006, Himaruya again said that Ethiopia was a character he wanted to design at some point. In January of 2007, Himaruya mentioned that he wanted Ethiopia to appear in the upcoming Gakuen Hetalia demo, but was unsure if this was possible. He was finally introduced, with no design, in the demo, in which he is apparently teased by his classmates for being reluctant to admit that he was at one point being occupied by Italy.

Ghana

Ghana has no confirmed gender and has only been shown as a "chibi" head illustration in the Gakuen Hetalia game. They are depicted with brown skin and long dark blonde hair styled in dreadlocks and were introduced as a former British territory. In the game, Ghana correctly guesses that Seychelles' coat of arms has something to do with the ocean.

Guinea-Bissau

Guinea-Bissau appeared in the Gakuen Hetalia game but they have no design. In the game, they follow Cabinda and introduce themselves as another former territory of Portugal.

Kenya

Africa Class

Draft designs for the Africa class womens' uniform in Gakuen Hetalia, with characters who resemble Zimbabwe and Kenya.

Kenya is female and was first seen as a "chibi" head illustration in the Gakuen Hetalia game. She has brown skin and brown hair styled into dreadlocks pulled into a ponytail. She is introduced as a former territory of Britain and says her favorite food is nyama choma (the national dish of Kenya). Kenya asks Seychelles about her coat of arms, leading to Seychelles becoming humiliated as the entire class laughs at its strange design.

In design drafts for the women's school uniform of the Africa class, a character strongly resembling Kenya is used (though it should be noted that stand-in designs are also frequently used in these drafts, so this may be a coincidence).

Libya

Libya was first mentioned in a 2006 footnote to Kitty Festival, where Himaruya stated that they were a character he wanted to design someday. He reiterated this in blog entries in October and November of 2006. Himaruya mentioned in a January 2007 blog post that he wanted Libya to appear in the upcoming demo of Gakuen Hetalia, but was unsure if this was possible. Ultimately, they did not appear in the demo.

Madagascar

Madagascar was mentioned by Seychelles in the "The Pearl of the Indian Ocean" comic from the Hetalia: Axis Powers Volume 6 manga as the only other nation she was able to talk about her animals with at meetings. While many fans speculate that the unidentified girl with whom Seychelles was talking (presumed by many to be another African nation) in this comic was in fact Madagascar, Madagascar was mentioned in the third person (though using third person is a somewhat common speech quirk in the Japanese language). This unidentified girl was also rather excited to see the ocean, which would be unlikely for an island nation.

Sahara

Sahara appeared in the Gakuen Hetalia game but they have no design. In the game, they introduce themselves as former territory of Spain. It is likely that they are mean to represent Western Sahara, rather than simply 'Sahara'.

South Africa

In response to a 2011 fan question following the debut of Cameroon asking which other African countries Himaruya had considered adding and which he had interest in, Himaruya responded that he loved South Africa. Also in 2011, Himaruya posted a sketch (titled Suricate) of a male character interacting with a meerkat. While he went unidentified, it is possible he was intended to be a personification of South Africa, given the range of meerkats. Based on this, other possibilities include Angola and Namibia. However, it is also possible that the character shown was not a personification.

SouthAfrica

South Africa as they appeared in the 420th chapter of Hetalia: World☆Stars

South Africa was identified by name and shown as a "chibi" head in chapter 420 of Hetalia: World☆Stars. Anticipating Brexit, the UK had been focusing on negotiating new distribution routes to non-EU nations. Wales mentions that South Africa, along with Singapore, will be their focus, and then expanding the market to the neighboring nations. Because South Africa was only shown as an uncolored "chibi" head, all that is known of their design is that they have short, dark hair. The "chibi" head was too small to tell if it resembled the unidentified man with the meerkat.

Uganda

Uganda is male and has only been shown as a "chibi" head illustration in the Gakuen Hetalia game. He is depicted with brown skin and a shaved head, and introduces himself as a former territory of Britain. He also says he takes his name from the former Kingdom of Buganda. After Seychelles shows her bizarre coat of arms, he winds up having to be carried off on a stretcher by medics after laughing too hard.

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe has no confirmed gender, and was first seen as a "chibi" head illustration in the Gakuen Hetalia game. They are depicted with brown skin, green eyes, and very short dark hair. They were introduced as a former territory of Britain. They enthusiastically ask to see Seychelles' national coat of arms after Kenya brings up the subject, causing Seychelles to be humiliated as the class laughs at it. Many fans believe the character to be female, likely due to their strong resemblance to a character appearing in design drafts for the Africa class women's school uniform (though it should be noted that stand-in designs are also frequently used in these drafts, so this may be a coincidence).

Zimbabwe has not appeared in the manga yet, but a club named "Extreme Zimbabwe" exists in Gakuen Hetalia and is listed on a blackboard among other clubs in the "Carry On, Newspaper Club!"strip.

Unidentified Nations

In "Lithuania's Out-Sourcing Part 3 (The Great Depression)", France is seen asking an unidentified country, who was one his colonies at the time, for money after the start of the Great Depression. It is unclear whether the nation in question is from Africa, but it is likely given that in the same image, England is shown speaking to Egypt and Seychelles.

UnnamedAfrican2

Seychelles' unnamed friend.

In the "The Pearl of the Indian Ocean" comic from Hetalia: Axis Powers Volume 6, a friend of Seychelles visits from Africa. She is never named in the story, though she is very vocally jealous of Seychelles' ocean, which could imply that she may be the representation of a landlocked country. She is taller than Seychelles with approximately the same skin tone, and with her hair tied back in a ponytail. This same nation is possibly depicted as a "chibi" in a 2014 blog post from Himaruya, but it is unknown for certain. In this sketch she is wearing what looks like khaki shirt and shorts, and has an unidentified animal on top of her head.

Latin America

All of the characters in this section, save Ecuador, have no design and have only been mentioned by Himaruya or other characters.

Brazil

In a blogpost from January 2011, following an illustration about the French apparently being the most pessimistic people in the world according to a recent public opinion poll, Himaruya said as an afterthought that Brazil (along with India and China) would be more optimistic. He said their mindset would be described as "this year seems like it will be very prosperous!"

Ecuador

Ecuador

Ecuador as he appears in the Bamboo Thicket Blog

Ecuador is the first South American country to receive a design. During the Halloween 2013 event, Himaruya posted some drawings on his blog with the message "Ecuador. I wonder if he'd be like this. I want to make an alpaca set with the South American countries that have a lot of alpacas!" Ecuador is depicted as an animal-loving country who owns many alpacas. He has brown hair and eyes, and was wearing a hat, poncho and what looks to be a bolo tie in one of the sketches posted by Himaruya.

Ecuador has appeared in one chapter of the manga, in chapter 49 of Hetalia: World☆Stars. At the beginning this chapter he is seen grinning while watching multiple other unidentified (presumably Latin American) nations loudly argue. This comic was adapted into the first episode of of the Hetalia: World☆Stars anime (season 7), but these unnamed characters and Ecuador were replaced by England, Canada, France, and America.

Haiti

A character who is nonchalantly mentioned by Estonia in the first episode of season one of the anime when he says to Russia, "You're so tough, next you'll try to pick a fight with Haiti". This line is only in the English dub, and this character has never been mentioned by Himaruya or seen in the anime or manga.

Mexico

Mexico has no official design, but is briefly mentioned in the drama CD adaptation of Lithuania's Out-Sourcing, in which America is running late to a meeting with the nation and expresses that, because it is with Mexico, he wants to wear a "casual" tie. Mexico is also mentioned in the "America and the World Map" strip, where America explains to England why Mexico on his map is "half-assed", stating that "It's because of my grudge over the Alamo". Mexico's name later was seen in the 2010 Christmas event on a list kept by Sealand of the nations who do not have the mark the Parallel Nations are seeking. In "Mr. Canada and His Neighbors" from Hetalia: Axis Powers Volume 6, Mexico was mentioned as trying to raise public safety standards with a Facebook poll. This comic was later adapted into the Hetalia: The World Twinkle episode of the same name (episode 14).

Paraguay

Paraguay has no design, but was mentioned in a FIFA 2010 sketch showing Germany manhandling Italy and Romano. Italy tells Germany that Germany is wrong about something and that they didn't go and watch soccer (football). Romano also tries to explain that they went to go see Paraguay.

UnnamedLatAmCountries

Ecuador and three presumably Latin American countries in the 49th chapter of Hetalia: World☆Stars.

Unidentified Nations

In chapter 49 of Hetalia: World☆Stars, Ecuador appears accompanied by at least three other nations who are most likely other Latin/South American countries. One of them has short hair pushed off their face by a headband. One has longer hair with bangs. Another in the background has very little detail other than having dark hair. It is unknown who any of these characters are intended to be. This comic was adapted into the first episode of of the Hetalia: World☆Stars anime (season 7), but these unnamed characters were replaced with England, Canada, and France.

Oceania

Tonga

Tonga in the Halloween 2011 event.

Tonga

Tonga made a brief appearance during the Halloween 2011 event and Part 2 of the Halloween Overflow for that year. Tonga is wearing a sheep costume for Halloween, and matching with Australia and New Zealand. The trio were apparently having a "blood feud" about who looked the most sheep-like. Seen only from behind, Tonga has short, dark hair and has no confirmed gender (but is usually assumed to be male by fans).

Asia

Bengal

China is mentioned to have received a giraffe from Bengal on his travels. No other information about this character has been revealed.

Brunei

There's no official sketch or mention of Brunei but it seems that in a short sketch of Indonesia and Malaysia, there are 2 heads' sketches up there and it appears to be Brunei.

Mongolia

First appearing as a small chibi sketch, Mongolia is described to have terrorized countries such as China, Japan, Hungary, and Russia in their childhoods. Possibly because of the diversity of the nomadic tribes in the country, he is known under several names, such as the Golden Horde, the Ulus of Jochi, and Tatar. In his appearances as the Golden Horde, his face is always concealed in shadow.

Tibet

Originally appearing in the webcomic strips The Story of China and Teensy Japan, he did not appear in the anime adaptation of the strip. He is depicted as a young monk and described as pitiful and quiet.

United Arab Emirates

Himaruya replied in a fan question that he imagined the United Arab Emirates as an old man living in the desert.

North Korea

Only mentioned in 2007, Himaruya describes his design of North Korea as being more reclusive than South Korea with a love for reading and dancing; however, it is unknown if this design will become a character.

Pakistan

In his blog, Himaruya mentioned that Pakistan was probably dancing in the back at the Halloween 2011 Event in reply to a question.

Ancient Nations

The characters in this section are personifications of ancient kingdoms/empires or tribes that have yet to have a role in the webcomic. Their existences were first revealed through information on the Bamboo Thicket blog and profiles.

Ancient Greece

The mother of Greece, she was described as having been relatively laid-back and easygoing. However, when she fought, she is said to have been "scary." Ancient Greece had a troubling internal struggle, which can be compared to that of Japan's feudal clans.

Rome fell in love with both her and Ancient Egypt at first sight. In Axis Powers Hetalia: The CD, she is also referred to as Byzantine Empire and it is said that Turkey had feelings for her as well, before conquering and killing her and taking the young Greece for himself.

Britannia

The mother of England and his siblings mentioned in a 2011 fan question, she is described as a tsundere.

Carthage

Carthage is mentioned as one of Rome's rivals. Rome mentions to Germany that one thing he did to gain power was beat up and defeat Carthage.

Golden Horde/Ulus of Jochi

The Golden Horde (the Ulus of Jochi in the English dub of the anime) is seen as a character in the 4th episode, pursuing a younger Russia. It is not known as of yet whether he is present-day Mongolia.

Magyar

Magyar was a male relative of Hungary's and an enemy to the Byzantine Empire. He was the one who trained Hungary in combat when she was younger, which lead to her imitating his masculine speech patterns and fighting style. He was said to fear for Hungary's safety, thinking that a powerful enemy, namely the Ottoman Empire (now known as Turkey) or Austria would one day conquer "her". In the unfinished screenplay for the game Gakuen Hetalia, Hungary's relative was referred to as Hun.

German States

These characters represent historical countries that became part of Germany with the unification and that exist in the modern day as its Federal States. In Osōji Prussia, they are all confirmed as Germany's older brothers, thus being other descendants of Germania. However, a note given by Himaruya states that all of Germany's siblings are "retired" and that they may die out and disappear over time due to no longer being active countries, having passed the duty and their skills on to Germany. It is ambiguous as to how many of these siblings are still alive (like in the case of Prussia) or which ones have died out.

Bavaria

This brother briefly appeared in between Saxony and Prussia in the summary of the War Of Austrian Succession. His hair is short and appears to be somewhat messy. Historically, he is also one of the many states that were under the control of the Holy Roman Empire (along with Saxony). In the War Of Austrian Succession, he insisted on the rights to the throne.

It is speculated that he also appeared as a child in the background of one of Prussia's diary segments with his brother though it remains unconfirmed whether it is actually a younger Bavaria or another Germanic.

Brandenburg

An older brother name-dropped by Prussia in the game. Little is known about him though it is historically heavily tied to Prussia.

Hesse

Another older brother, also briefly name-dropped by Prussia. It is said that Germany inherited his stubbornness from him, as well as from Prussia and Saxony.

Hesse made an appearance in one of the Christmas Trivia Comics for the Christmas 2011 Event, as well as the blog comic strip Denmark and Sweden's Friendly Relations. The Christmas 2011 comics depicted the Battle of Trenton on Christmas Eve 1776 during the American Revolution. Hesse and his mercenary army were defeated by the American Revolutionaries due to their being drunk for the Christmas celebration. Himaruya's 2013 blog comic briefly depicted Hesse as being hired by Denmark for mercenaries.

Holstein

Little is known about this brother, other than his name being mentioned when Prussia attempted to count off all of Germany's siblings.

Saxony

This character was briefly mentioned in a summary of the events of the War Of Austrian Succession, where he appeared in an illustration alongside Prussia, Bavaria, Spain, and France. He has long blond hair like his ancestor. In the War Of Austrian Succession, he attempted to obtain Moravia. He is also mentioned as having been involved in the Seven Years' War.

Saxony has also appeared as a background character in one of Prussia's diary segments in the Liechtenstein's Journal Of Swiss Dopiness strip series, and in an omake illustration in Comic Diary 7, hanging out with Prussia and two other unnamed Germania offspring. His only appearance in the main webcomic storyline has been a brief cameo as one of Holy Roman Empire's guards (in Chibitalia), with two other unidentified German states acting as the others. This appearance was removed in the anime version when the guards' appearances were changed.

In Osōji Prussia, it is said that his stubbornness rubbed off on Germany himself.

Other

Feudal Territories/Clans of Japan

These characters have appeared in The World At War And The Fool Of Owari, representing the different territories or clans of feudal Japan. While Aizu, Osaka, and Mito made cameo appearances in a previous storyline (Black Ships Have Come!) and Osaka showed up again in (Netherlands and Isolationist Japan), the other three have only appeared in this unfinished story, though Owari is the only one involved in the actual story so far (with Kanazawa and Sendai appearing in footnotes). Each character is based off a character from one of Himaruya's previous webcomics.

Quebec

Quebec appears once in a comic. Canada is awake, appearing to have just had a dream about something terrible regarding Quebec. It then shows a Chibi Quebec declaring himself as an independent nation. Not much is known about Quebec, other then what the single Chibi has shown us. He seems to be snobby and very determined to become an independent nation.

Aizu

Aizu

A character representing the Aizu clan. He is very serious and loyal, but too hard-headed to keep up with the changing times. He tried to fight to the end in the Boshin War, but Sendai dragged him down and caused him to be defeated by his sister (Miharu) and fall into poverty.

In Black Ships Have Come!, he is the one to suggest that the Japanese find a way to get along with the Westerners though he is chewed out for his idea by Mito.

His design is based on that of Homare Aizu from Barjona Bombers (which takes place in the same universe as another Himaruya comic, Advance! Kitakou Broadcasting Club).

Kanazawa

A character representing the Kanazawa clan. He is usually moody and depressed due to having a lot of rain. He doesn't like to fight and would prefer to write poetry or create art.

He is based on Noto Kanazawa from Advance! Kitakou Broadcasting Club, though the actual Noto has also made cameo appearances in the Hetalia series. It appears that Kanazawa is modeled after Noto's earlier personality and appearance in the series (dubbed "White Noto").

Mito

Mito

A character representing the Mito clan. A logical, spirited, and grouchy man with an enormous ego and bad temper. He has a strong sense of justice that can get out of control, which causes him to make trouble for others.

In the Black Ships strips, Mito becomes angered at the idea of making peace with Western powers and wants no part with interacting with the foreigners.

The basis for his design is another Himaruya character, Junsa Mito, who appeared as a minor character in Advance! Kitakou Broadcasting Club.

Osaka

大阪 Chibi

Osaka in modern times

A character representing the Osaka clan. A friendly clan with a good business sense and an intense pickiness about food. He is known as "The World's Kitchen".

In Black Ships, he is shown acting as Japan's messenger boy and accompanies him (along with a Dutch translator) when he is introduced to America. By the end of America's visit, Osaka becomes aggravated by all of his demands and urges for Japan to "punch him", though Japan is unable to do so.

He is also shown to have tried to deter Netherlands from visiting the isolationist Japan, only to be given a tulip, though he still tried to warn Netherlands of Japan's status.

In Christmas 2010, he is later shown confronting Parallel France with Japan, and in the aftermath looking on as Japan trained with kendo.

He is based on Tsukomi Hoke from Barjona Bombers.

One of his more recent appearances was in Volume 5 of the published manga, where he is shown interacting with Netherlands and Japan at the time of Japan's isolation.

Owari

A character representing the Owari clan. A wild woman with a very "strange" personality, she is often left out due to her insistence at being non-conformist. She is very vocal about money and food, and her speciality is inventing strange types of food. It is said that she has a complicated relationship with Mikawa.

In the unfinished Owari strip, she urges Japan to stay away from Oda Nobunaga, the future ruler, as she finds him to be a disgrace.

Her design and personality are loosely based on Miyako Owari from Advance! Kitakou Broadcasting Club, though Miyako's hair is long and blonde while this Owari's hair is dark and held up in a bun. Even so, she retains the red hairclips that Miyako wears as accessories in her hair.

Sendai

A character representing the Sendai clan. A foolish woman that is described as the "Italy" to Japan. She is considered to be useless and cowardly, having said to have ignored battles if no food came. Her most notable features are her pigtails and large straw hat.

She is based on Hagina Sendai, from Barjona Bombers.

Kowloon Walled City

A character that does not have any official design, Himaruya has only mentioned Kowloon in a question from a fan. In the question, Himaruya described his interpretation of Kowloon as a "dirty, chaotic" character.

Mr. Newspaper

The name for a character that is made to represent a country's newspaper. The first notable appearance of one is in Comic Diary 9, during Austria's presidential elections. He appears as a freckled man in a flat cap.

An omake illustration depicts at least six "Mr. Newspapers", including one that resembles France, though it is noted that every country has their own and that all of them happen to be megalomaniacs.

Picardy

Picardy in the Beautiful world

Picardy in Episode 111.

  • Voiced by: Mitsuhiro Ishiki (Japanese), Josh Martin (English Dub)

A character who has appeared in concept art for the April Fools: Aftermath dating sim game, and in the Hetalia: The Beautiful World episode that adapts the April Fools' strips. Though players can choose a name for him, his default name is Picardy, after the French region and historical province of the same name.

He is related to France, and is also hired by him to take incriminating photographs of the other nations, and wears a pair of cat ears on his head (much like how France wears cat ears and a tail when on a stripping rampage), calling France a "slave driver".

In April Fools' 2011 event, he is roped in with France to take incriminating photographs of them while they were asleep, so that they could ask the blackmailed nations to wear embarrassing costumes. This was later found to be orchestrated by Spain.

Ryukyu Islands

Himaruya mentioned the Ryukyu Islands and Australia within a 2008 Bamboo Thicket post, noting he hadn't initially thought he would draw them, but that they were likely to be added. Himaruya also expressed that he thought the two would have contrasting personalities.

Shinatty-chan

A middle-aged man in a Hello Kitty knockoff costume. He is a frequent companion of China and has only been shown out of his mascot suit twice so far.

His name comes from Shina, an older offensive term used for China by the Japanese.

United Nations

An old man who appears briefly in volume 2, representing the U.N.. He briefly appears in the anime adaption in Episode 69.

Crossover Characters

Noto-sama

See Noto Kanazawa at the Kitayume wiki Noto Kanazawa (金沢のと Kanazawa Noto), better known as Noto-sama, is the lead character from Advance! Kitakou Broadcasting Club, the first webcomic by Himaruya. He has appeared in the Hetalia comic on a few occasions and crossed over with the nations in the games Noto-sama 5 and 6. Though he first appeared as a regular schoolboy in the original comic, it is his later cross-dressing and vengeful self ("Black Noto") that is shown in these appearances, usually wearing a red sailor uniform dress and a detachable ponytail with a red bow. He is best known for exacting his vengeance on people more popular than him by stripping them, or humiliating them in other sexually suggestive ways.

He first appears in the deleted Christmas 2007 sequel to exact his revenge for having an unhappy Christmas, only to wind up stripped by France. His next cameo is during Spain's April Fools event, in one of the fake news reports where it states that he, Yamato, and Prussia were all arrested for lewd conduct at school. He later appears to wish the readers a happy April Fools' Day, after France tricks Spain into stripping to appease the "God of Lies".

Yamato

See Yamato Nara at the Kitayume wiki

Yamato Nara (奈良大和 Nara Yamato) is Noto-sama's partner in crime and originated from Himaruya's second webcomic Barjona Bombers (which later shared the same universe as Kitakou and crossed over with it). He became Noto's partner after the third Noto-sama game and has since shown up in cameos in Hetalia as well.

Yamato's first appearance is also during the Christmas 2007 sequel, where he assists Noto in carrying out his revenge on Christmas. When the two attempt to invade Poland's house, they wind up finding that their targets have already stripped naked for a celebration and wind up with their clothes stripped off by France. He next appears in April Fools 2008 in a fake news report stating that he was arrested on the World Academy W campus for exposing himself to a girl (along with Noto and Prussia).

Historical Figures

Jeanne d'Arc

Also known as Joan of Arc, she was shown in the strip Big Brother France and That Kid, which showed her romantic relationship with France.

In A Bientôt! Until We Meet Again, her reincarnation, Lisa, is spotted by France who leads her around Mont-Saint-Michel. She is later seen discussing this strange event with her mother while America overhears from nearby.

Adolf Hitler

Germany's boss, seen in the World War II-set strips.

Joseph Stalin

Russia's boss during the World War II-set strips.

Frederick the Great of Prussia

Prussia's favorite boss of all time, whom he refers to as "Old Fritz." He was the Prussia's boss during the War of Austrian Succession strips/episodes, though he didn't make an appearance at that time.
