Hetalia Wiki

Hello and welcome to the Hetapedia, the place for all things Hetalia! You may find that there are things that are out of date, but don't worry, we are currently trying our best to update and revamp! Any contributions are appreciated! Additionally, some site formatting may look different or not work on mobile: at the very bottom of the site there is a button, "View Full Site", which will allow the full desktop formatting to be seen.

Hetalia Wiki

Welcome to the Hetapedia Guidelines page! This page contains a series of rules and policies created to keep users safe, to help Hetapedia remain a welcoming and fun place, and, of course, to regulate editing.

If a user violates any of these policies, that person will in most cases receive a simple warning first. However, if the problem continues, they will likely be blocked, which entails being barred from editing the wiki. However, blocked users can still browse the site. The length of a block can range from anywhere from a day to infinite, and will depend on the severity of the action and the policy that was broken. The consequences for violating policies are included below.

If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please leave a message on either this page's talk page, the discussion forum, or contact one of the administrators directly on their message wall. Additionally, if you feel you have been unfairly blocked, please reach out to an administrator and appeal. Thank you for your cooperation.

Global Policies

Global Policies are major rules that the company Fandom has created that apply to every wiki and every user, including those who do not have an account. These are extremely important and every single Fandom user must follow them. Violating these policies in minor cases will result first in warnings, then in greater consequences if it escalates further. Severe violations may result in your account being blocked from the entire Fandom.com site by Fandom staff.

Please make sure thoroughly read the following:

Some global policy pages have not been included on this page due to not being entirely relevant to the average user; see the full list to read every global policy page.

User Conduct Guidelines

The following guidelines apply to general user conduct and behavior, including in article comment sections, discussion forum, user pages, and article talk pages. Violating these will result in a warning or a mild block the first time, and then greater consequences for further violations.

  • Be kind and respectful to all other users. We are all fans of Hetalia, and it is important we work together as a team to edit this wiki and make it the best it can be. Leave rude attitudes and discourse at the door. Users who violate this policy will first receive a stern warning, then may be blocked from editing if it is continued.
  • Do not start, encourage, or participate in bullying or harassment of any kind towards any users. Bullying and harassment will result in being blocked.
  • Do not start, encourage, or participate in ship wars, character bashing, or any type of hate or negativity. General critiquing is allowed but must remain positive, not hateful. Any egregious bashing/hate towards characters, ships, comics, people involved in the making of official Hetalia media, or other fans will be removed.
  • Debating in the discussion forum is allowed, but keep discussions civil and do not encourage arguments. Be open-minded about differing opinions and do not try to force others to engage with ideas they disagree with/find uncomfortable.
  • Do not post links to pirating anime sites.
  • Do not paste any wiki content into any AI site. This site should not be used to train AI.
  • If you get blocked, do not make a new account to continue editing. You will be blocked again. If you believe you were wrongly blocked, please reach out to an administrator for clarification or to make an appeal.

Article Pages

Please do not:

  • Vandalize or troll pages or files. This includes adding comments, jokes, and clearly false and inaccurate information to pages. Comments/jokes can be shared in the forum or the article's comment section. Inserting blatantly false/inaccurate information or spam/troll content to pages will result in either a warning or a short block for first time offenses, depending on the severity of the vandalism. Repeated vandalism will result in a longer or even infinite block.
  • Start edit wars. If you think something on a page is incorrect, please feel free to fix it, but do not repeatedly edit something back and forth with other users. Please talk to an administrator if another user attempts to start an editing war with you.
  • Remove true information from pages. A first offense will result in a warning, then you will be blocked if it continues.
  • Use generative AI in any way to contribute to the wiki or in discussion posts. If it is discovered you are using AI to write or create any content you upload here, you will be blocked from editing.
  • Write about speculation as if it is a definitive fact. There are many things in Hetalia that are more implied than directly said, such as some character's ages and sexualities or an entity they previously represented. These MUST be specified to be an implication, and significant valid evidence to support it must be cited.
  • Create pointless articles, such as for a character Himaruya mentioned only once or a voice actor who only provided additional voices in one episode.
  • Advertise for other sites.
  • Create pages about fanon concent. See below for a list of topics not permitted to be be the focus of or included in articles.

User Pages and Message Walls

  • Harmful, offensive, or inappropriate content posted in your user page or message wall will be removed. If you continue to put it back, you will be blocked.
  • Only edit other people's user pages to correct grammar and spelling, to revert vandalism or spam, or to remove deleted files/templates.
  • Do not harass other users in their message wall. If you have a grievance with someone, you can post on an administrator's wall or discuss it with an administrator in private through a different method such as our tumblr or discord server.

Comment Sections

  • Harmful and/or offensive comments will be removed. If you continue to comment similar things, you will be blocked.
  • Inappropriate or sexually explicit comments on articles will be removed. If you continue to comment similar things, you will be blocked.
  • Historically insensitive comments will be removed. If you continue to comment similar things, you will be blocked.
  • Do not spam comments. This will result in being blocked.
  • Keep comments relevant to the article. Move long and irrelevant conversations to the forum, don't go back and forth in a comment section.
  • Comments from users with inappropriate usernames will be removed. Even if the comment itself is okay, if the commenter's username is sexually explicit or offensive, their comments will be removed.

Talk Pages

  • Use article talk pages only for discussing improvements to said article. A talk page is not a place for stating things like "That was an awesome episode!" or "X is my fav character!". Those can be posted as a comment on the article, in the forum, or on your user page.
    • Users wishing to retract something they had said in a talk page should strike the text by placing it between <s> and </s> tags, which will display the comment like this.
  • Don't forget to sign your posts! That way everyone knows who said what. Type ~~~~ in the source editor to sign a post.
  • Do not edit other people's talk page comments except to correct something like grammar or formatting.
  • Do not delete other people's talk page comments.

Discussion Forum

See the forum to read its specific guidelines.

Article Guidelines

Below are guidelines for various types of pages on Hetapedia. See the Manual of Style to see a guide for layout, stylization, etc on articles.

  • All articles must be related to Hetalia.
  • Articles must be written in English and should contain proper grammar and spelling. American English is preferred but not mandatory.
    • Blogs, talk pages, and forum posts can be written in any form of English (ex. Canadian, British, etc.). We cannot moderate any other languages.
    • Don't hesitate to ask other users for help with grammar or spelling! Spelling and grammar mistakes can easily be corrected by other users.
    • Please fix mistakes when/if you see them.
  • Do not create pages about fanon concent. Including but not limited to:
    • Original Characters. You may discuss OCs in the forum and/or create pages about them on our affiliate wiki, OCtalia.
    • Fanart, including fan colorings of any of Himaruya's art. Your fanart is only permitted in the discussion forum. See the file guidelines below for more detailed information on the rules for files.
    • Other fanworks such as fanfictions, doujinshi, fan games, videos, fan songs, or fan episodes.
    • Unproven rumors or speculations. Do not mention these in articles unless it is to explain them specifically as rumors/speculations. It is permitted to mention theories (with a disclaimer that it is a theory) as long as they are backed up with sufficient evidence and explanation.
    • Non-canon/non-semi-canon ships. At the end of January 2025, it was decided these pages would be removed because this site is meant to be an encyclopedia about Hetalia and its production, and most Hetalia ships are not canon. You are more than welcome to add ship pages to the Fandom.com Shipping Wiki, and the administrators will be happy to send any deleted page content to anyone who asks.
  • Use of categories on articles is necessary. However, do not create new categories without discussing with other editors. Put articles under existing categories that they apply to.
  • Information added to pages MUST be appropriately cited, otherwise it may be removed and/or you will be asked to provide a source. See the reference guidelines below and the Manual of Style for guidelines for citations/references/sourcing and how to format them.
    • The anime dub is NOT an appropriate source. Do not use it except to note differences between the sub and the dub.
  • It is permitted to mention speculation/theories in an article (with a disclaimer that it is a theory) as long as they are backed up with sufficient evidence and explanation.
  • See above for general behavior guidelines for articles.

Character Pages

  • Keep page content relevant to the specific character they are about.
  • Consult the template pages (Template:Infobox/Nation; Template:Infobox/Human; Template:Infobox/Creature) for clarification on how to utilize each field in a character infobox.
  • Do not create pages for minor characters who do not have substantive appearances or information revealed about them.
    • For most minor characters, they can be added to the List of Minor Characters. For minor human characters, please add them to List of Human Characters. Random unnamed background humans without any significant role not need to have a page or be listed on a page. Major pets and creatures should get their own pages, but those who have only had minor appearances or mentions should just be listed on the List of Pets or List of Folkloric Entities pages.
    • Don't hesitate to ask for clarification on whether a character warrants a page being made about them!
  • Page titles must be concise and the most common name for the character. Nation character articles must be the country name, not their human name. For example, America's page is just "America", as opposed to "The United States of America" or "Alfred F. Jones".
    • The same applies for historical figures; these pages should generally follow the same naming as the person's page on Wikipedia. For example, the page title "Claudius" being used for Claudius instead of "Emperor Claudius" or "Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus".
  • Do not use the English Dub of the anime as a source for writing character personalities or actions. Please first and foremost use the manga and statements by Himaruya.
  • Do not include historical information that has not been discussed or covered within Hetalia. This applies to both nations and human characters. The only exception is if it's to give context or expand on something that has been discussed, or to provide basic background information on historical figures such as birth/death dates, names of parents, and the like.

Cast/Crew Pages

  • Do not include any crew or cast member's entire filmography on their page. This is irrelevant to Hetalia. Their IMDb, Wikipedia, and other pages should be linked so that users can find more information.
  • Consult the template page (Template:Infobox/People) for clarification on how to utilize each field in the infobox for real people involved with Hetalia.
  • Try to use the most up-to-date image of the person that can be found.
  • First and foremost use the anime credits when sourcing a person's work on the Hetalia anime, or, if that is unavailable, a statement from the person themself. Secondary sources like IMDb or Behind the Voice Actors can be used, but may contain erroneous information, so it is best to use them only as necessary.
  • Do not create pages for minor crew or cast members. For example, if someone only provided additional voices in one episode. They should be included on the list of voice actors/crew members pages, but they do not need individual pages.
  • DO NOT misgender or deadname any crew members.

Anime Pages

  • Consult the template pages (Template:Infobox/Season; Template:Infobox/Episode; Template:Infobox/DVD) for clarification on how to utilize each field in the season, episode, and DVD infoboxes.
  • Each season page must list the cast and crew involved with the season.
  • Each episode page must list the cast and crew involved in the episode, as well as all character appearances.
  • Do not use the English Dub as a source for writing episode summaries.
    • The only time the English Dub should be used is to provide a list of differences between it and the original Japanese version.

Manga Pages

  • Consult the template pages (Template:Infobox/Chapter; Template:Infobox/Volume) for clarification on how to utilize each field in the manga chapter and volume infoboxes.
  • Generally, we will source from Hetalia Archives' translations. Their translations are much easier for the average fan to access than published English volumes. The original Japanese texts will also be used.

File Guidelines

Below are guidelines for uploading files to Hetapedia and how to use them. These rules are also present on the file upload form.

Please do not upload:

  • Fanart, edits, cosplays, memes, or other fanworks. The only place where fanart is permitted is sharing your own art in the discussion forum. The only exception is if the file will be used exclusively on your user page.
  • Offensive, pornographic, racist, etc. images. This will result in an immediate block.
  • YouTube uploads of character songs, drama CDs, etc.
  • Low-quality files, unless there is absolutely no other better quality option available.
  • Files that already exist on Hetapedia. To view or search previously uploaded files go to the list of uploaded files.

Please also keep in mind that files should be used in a page within a reasonable time from when they are uploaded. If not, they may be deleted.

File Naming

  • File names must be cohesive, clear, recognizable, and relevant to the subject matter. For example, screenshots from anime episodes preferably should include the season and episode number.
  • DO NOT upload a file with a name containing random list of numbers, an automatic screenshot name, a keysmash, non-standard characters/letters, etc. These names will be changed or the file will be removed.
  • DO NOT upload a file with an offensive name. This will result in an immediate block.
  • Extensions are preferred to be in short form (jpg over jpeg) and must be in lowercase.
  • An administrator or other user may change the name of your file at any time.

File Summary

  • The "Summary" part of the file upload form is what will insert information into the file's page after it is uploaded.
    • You must paste the following into the summary box and fill it out as accurately as possible.
    • Improperly sourced files may be removed. Please see the Sourcing Guidelines and Manual of Style for guidelines for citations/references/sourcing and how to format them.
    • Translated images taken from Hetalia Archives must be must be credited and the original post must be linked back to in the file's page, as per their rules for reposting their translations to other sites. Editing out the translated text or using the original Japanese images will nullify this, however, the source for the image must still be stated and linked to.
==Summary==
Description of the file’s contents, including characters and where it is from.

==Source==
Source of the file. Such as the anime episode, manga chapter/panel, or blog post. Or for non-Hetalia content related images, the photographer, artist, site the image is from, and so on.

Additionally, add any relevant character image categories with the format [[Category:Images of __]].
  • If you come across files that do not have any description or sourcing, please feel free to add it.
  • An administrator or other user may edit the description/sourcing of your file at any time.

File Licensing

  • The "Licensing" part of the file upload form adds a template to the file's page explaining its licensing. Simply open the drop-down menu and pick the most applicable option.
    • Not choosing a licensing option may result in your file being removed.
  • If you come across a file that has no licensing template, you may insert one by editing the file source and adding ==Licensing== and inserting in the most applicable licensing template (which can be all be seen in the licensing template category).
