Volume 1 of Hetalia: Axis Powers was released on March 28th, 2008 in Japan by the publisher Gentosha. It compiles several reprinted or redrawn comic strips from the original webcomic, as well as a large amount of new material.
All chapter titles, page numbers, etc. listed below are from the original Japanese publication.
Cover[]
The front of the volume's dust jacket features Italy Veneziano, Germany, and Japan in their signature World War II uniform outfits. Veneziano is the central figure, being in the middle-right foreground. Germany is behind him on the left side of the cover, and Japan is behind them both at the top right. Each character is labeled with a small flag next to them. The background color is white, and it is decorated with circles, swirling lines, floral patterns, and other decorative images in shades of green, yellow, and white.
The original Hetalia logo appears in the top left corner. The main title, "ヘタリア", is red and decorated with similar floral and circle patterns as on the rest of the cover but in other shades of red, and it has yellow and white outlines. The "Axis Powers" part of the title is in green cursive. Both titles are in front of a large, black image of the shape of Italy. Himaruya Hidekaz's name is printed in black text in the lower left corner of the logo, and there is an Italian flag located above his name.
On the spine, instead of a "1" being listed following the "ヘタリア" title, there is the shape of Italy.
The back cover has the same background and colorful decorations as the front cover. It also features small chibi doodles of the entire main cast: Germany, Italy Veneziano, Japan, America, England, France, China, and Russia, with small flag labels above their heads. Also present on the back cover is a four paneled bonus comic with Germany and Veneziano (see below for summary).
Under the dust jacket, the physical cover of the volume is teal and pink. The front cover is dark teal with the same decorative lines, circles, floral patterns, and other designs as the dust jacket, though in shades of light pink and white. The back cover is dark pinkish red with the designs being shades of teal and white.
