Chibi Germania from

Chibi Germania from Axis Powers Volume 4

Military Outfits[]

Signature Battle Attire[]

Germania's battle attire consists of a greenish brown segmented (laminar)[Note 1] chestplate, a long layered tunic and brown riding pants beneath, and a heavy brown cloak over his shoulders. He wears tall animal-skin boots, as well as bracelets around his wrists (his 2008 TCG card also depicts him wearing thick gloves). A more recent chibi of him in battle attire has added white fur at the shoulders.

Weapons-wise, he is mostly depicted with a long sword, though the 2010s chibi also shows him sporting a round shield. In a 2008 blog post,[1] he was described as the type of guy to "race through fields with an axe in one hand and bow with arrow in the other", although he was never depicted as such in the manga or anime. This still checks out from a historical standpoint, as archaeological findings suggest that all of these weapons were used by Germanic warriors at some point.[Note 2]

Casual Clothing[]

Tunic[]

In Together with Grandpa Rome[2] adapted in Episode 60, Germania is depicted wearing a light gray sleeveless tunic with a laced opening on the front.

Modern Clothes[]

In strips set in the present day/afterlife (such as Grandpa Rome’s Visit Home[3] or a request strip from the Christmas 2011 Event[4]), he wears casual modern clothes like graphic tees.

Notes[]

  1. Laminar armor, or in this case specifically lorica segmentata (lit. segmented cuirass), was a type of armor usually associated with (but not exclusive to) the Roman army. Due to frequent contact between both peoples, the Germanic Tribes often used gear similar to that of Roman troops. Click here or here for more information.
  2. Mainly, those weapons were found as grave goods. Click here for more information.
