Genoa (ジェノヴァ, Jenova) is a minor character in the series Hetalia. He is the personification of Genoa.[Note 1]
Appearance[]
Genoa in Chapter 311
Genoa is a young man of an unknown physical age. He has semi-wavy cheek-length dark hair styled in a left side part (the viewer's right side), with his fringe covering the right side of his forehead (the viewer's left side). Similarly to his relatives, Genoa has a curl sticking out from the rest of his hair, though his sticks out from the top of his head and curls to his right. The color of his hair and eyes is currently unknown, however his hair is shaded darkly, and his eyes seem to be as well, so it is possible that he has brown hair and brown or greenish eyes like his relatives do. Additionally, it was revealed in the Hetalia☆Collezione that his height is 165 cm (~5'5).[1]
In his appearance in the manga, Genoa was depicted wearing a dark, collared coat with light trim around the edges of the collar and sleeve cuffs. The ruffled sleeves of his shirt poke out beneath the cuffs of his coat. He has dark colored gloves, and around his neck is what seems to be a ruffled cravat or jabot with a brooch pinned to it. He also wears a small crown atop his head. The colors of any of these garments are currently unknown.[2]
Personality[]
Not much is known in depth about Genoa's personality. In his profile in the Hetalia☆Collezione, it is revealed that right now he wants to go on a Mediterranean vacation, his favorite dessert is frisceu,[Note 4] and his favorite dishes are linguine al pesto[Note 5] and focaccia.[Note 6] He is shown to think highly of himself and to be quite condescending and arrogant, with Himaruya noting in the Hetalia☆Collezione that he designed Genoa to be a very haughty and prideful character because the Genoese had a condescending and arrogant attitude when it came to business.[1] He is business-minded and enjoys buying and selling territories, but despite this, he is bad at governing territories not close to him, and his arrogant and condescending way of governing caused revolts from the Corsican people.[1][2] His lack of skill in governing is also something he wishes to keep from being discovered by others.[1]
Biography[]
Nothing is known about Genoa's life other than the events in the 1700s that were depicted in his brief appearance in the manga.[Note 1]
Republic of Genoa[]
In 1729, the Corsican people began to rebel against Genoa's rule. The conflict continued, with Genoa at some point realizing that Corsica was "being noisy again", and wondering what to do about it. Unable to stop the revolting Corsicans, Genoa decided to put Corsica's sovereignty up for sale, with France eagerly purchasing the island and telling Genoa what a good idea it was to sell it. The Corsicans did not like the island being sold to France against their will, and thus after Corsica became a territory of France, they still considered Genoa an enemy and revolted against both France and Genoa.[2][3]

- Corsica/Corsican People: Genoa's arrogant and condescending way of governing led to revolting from the Corsicans, who wanted to be independent from Genoa's rule. Even after Corsica was sold to France, the Corsicans still considered Genoa an enemy.
