Aerican Empire (アエリカ帝国, Aerika Teikoku), also referred to simply as Aerica, is a supporting character in the series Hetalia. He is the personification of the Aerican Empire, a micronation located in Canada.

Appearance

Aerican Empire is a teenager with fluffy dark brown hair with a red streak in his fringe. He has a single curly hair sticking up, resembling Canada's, and brown eyes.

He can often be seen accompanied by a floating orb with a smiley face on it, which could be a nod to the flag of the Aerican Empire (his flag somewhat resembles the Canadian flag, but instead of a red maple leaf in the center, the Aerican Empire flag depicts a yellow smiley face); it might also be a reference to the fictional planet of Verden, which is part of the Aerican Empire. The orb was shown to have a mind of its own.

Personality and Interests

Aerica appears to have two outward personalities (one confident and one not) that he displays depending on whether or not he is wearing his dramatic costume. When costumed, he is loud and takes more risks, and seems to enjoy making a dramatic and impactful entrance. However, when wearing regular clothes, he appears much more shy and lacking self-confidence. This is especially true when he's around Canada; throughout his appearances in the comics, Aerica is shown to constantly question his self-worth and expect others to reject him by default.

Despite this, he easily comes out of his shell when his interests are mentioned, as seen in the World☆Stars Volume 7 Extras. Initially bashful upon meeting Canada and resorting to self-loathing as he always does around Canada, he perks up when he notices Canada holding a Starry Wars DVD and goes on a rant about the franchise. Ironically enough, it turned out that Canada was merely a casual fan. Later on, in World☆Stars Chapter 489, Aerica confesses that he has a tendency to ramble nonstop once he gets started.

True to the nature of his creation, Aerica loves science fiction and fantasy, and more specifically Star Wars (renamed Starry Wars in the comics as mentioned above). In World☆Stars Chapter 488, after being invited to hang out at Canada's place, the latter suggest they watch some Starry Wars but is unsure what to start with. Aerica excitedly chimes in, suggesting they binge-watch the entirety of the series, and reassuring Canada that he will explain all the necessary jargon.

He also values the power of imagination, and believes that thanks to that, everyone has a claim to an unconquerable land inside themselves. Despite his initial entrance being similar to that of a supervillain, he has only interacted with others in a very friendly way so far.

Aerica appears to hold great respect and admiration for Canada as he refers to him as Mr. or Master Canada, and offers him free souvenirs from his online shop. However, his high esteem for Canada causes Aerica to talk himself down when they meet, expecting to be rejected by default (even being shocked or even embarrassed when Canada tells him he's been reading his website). Canada, on the other hand, has constantly shown appreciation and interest towards the micronation, listening to his rants and engaging with his passion for Starry Wars.

Molossia

Molossia and the Aerican Empire appear to be good friends; they are often referred to as "microcon buddies". Aerica is noted to be one of the few that have seen Molossia's softer side.

Hutt River

When Hutt River tells the other micronations that he's going to quit being a nation in World☆Stars Chapter 436, Aerica makes a dramatic entrance and tells him about the power of imagination, giving Hutt River a big confidence boost and possibly even saving him for disappearing.

• Aerican Empire's headquarters is in Montreal, Canada.

• The real-world Aerican Empire was founded in 1987, and has territories in Canada, Australia, several other areas on Earth, a colony on Mars, the northern hemisphere of Pluto, and the imaginary planet of Verden. More information can be found on the official website of the Aerican Empire.

• His motto is "The world is ridiculous; let's keep it that way" and his anthem is titled "Home is where I hang my towel".

• The planet that flies around Aerica has been seen destroying a UFO that was abducting Molossia's pet (the Myth of aliens taking cattle originates from early UFO sightings in the USA).

• Himaruya often seems to write him using speech that is very old-fashioned and in modern times is associated with geek culture, such as referring to Molossia with the honorific "dono" (殿) or himself with an outdated form of "I" (我, ga).
• Some fans celebrate his birthday on May 8, as the date the Aerican Empire was founded was May 8, 1987.
